Two people died after a red SUV crashed into a building in Immokalee on Friday morning.
The driver of the SUV at fault was 24-year-old Walner Nelson of Immokalee, who was arrested and faces DUI manslaughter charges.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the SUV crashed into the Physical Therapy Center of Immokalee building at 212 S First St.
FHP said the SUV traveled off the roadway and entered the parking lot before colliding with two unoccupied vehicles and the building.
Two pedestrians, a 48-year-old Immokalee man and a 42-year-old Immokalee woman, were inside the building and suffered serious injuries in the crash. They were transported to an area hospital, FHP troopers said.
According to FHP, two passengers in the SUV, a 20-year-old Immokalee woman and a 13-year-old boy, died. The woman was pronounced dead on the scene, and the 13-year-old boy died at the hospital.
An infant and a 1-year-old were also in the SUV. FHP said they suffered minor injuries.
Nelson suffered minor injuries and is facing the following charges at this time:
- 2 counts of DUI manslaughter
- 2 counts of vehicular homicide
FHP said he is facing additional criminal charges and was booked into the Collier County Jail.
The crash is under investigation.
