A Bristol Florida woman is in custody and being charged with DUI manslaughter after a traffic crash on Highway 98 in Panama City.
According to the Bay County Police Department, Kourtney Sage Hofheinz was driving westbound on Highway 98 in the area of West 15th Street when she collided head-on with another driver in the eastbound lane.
The other driver died on the scene. Officials said a witness approached the vehicle after the accident and found the defendant under the steering wheel in the driver’s floorboard.
EMS told authorities that Hofheinz admitted she had been drinking before the collision.
Upon further investigation, police obtained a search warrant for her car on July 23 and found various items including medical marijuana containers and several different types of pills.
On August 21, authorities said they reviewed Hofheinz’s medical records from the night of the crash.
The blood sample was tested for ethanol and came back with a result of 0.124. As a result, a warrant was issued for Hofheinz’s arrest and she turned herself into the Bay County Sheriff’s office.
Hofheinz is currently held in the Bay County Sheriff’s office on a $505,000 bond.
