A 73-year-old Ocala man was killed on Thursday after his car veered off a local roadway and struck a tree. The fatal crash occurred at around 4:55 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, near the intersection of Baseline Road and NE 24th Street. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a Toyota Corolla was heading southbound on Baseline Road, just south of the NE 24th intersection, when the vehicle left the roadway and traveled onto the west grassy shoulder.

The granddaughter of Major and Claudette Melvin was arrested in connection with the March murders of the elderly couple at their Fort Lauderdale home, according to police. 7News cameras captured Jalisa Hill in handcuffs as she was walked into the Broward County Jail, late Thursday afternoon. According to Detective Angel Rodriguez, officers responded to the area of Northwest 17th Avenue and 69th Street just before 3:30 a.m. after receiving reports about a person being shot in the area. Rodriguez said officers arrived to find a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Local 10 photojournalist Lani Yasuk-Carrier was told at the scene that the victim had been shot in the chest.

One person was critically injured in a rollover crash Thursday in Orange County, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The crash happened around 4:55 p.m. on Landstar Boulevard and E. Photo by: FHP On Thursday Florida Highway Patrol announced they arrested a 19 year old motorcyclist from Cape Coral following an investigation into a crash from June. FHP’s Traffic Homicide Division said Alexander Isbel Cruz was arrested on a felony warrant for Vehicular Homicide. In the crash, FHP determined that Cruz’s motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed. It was going between 96 to106 mph traveling south on Interstate 75, south of mile marker 138 in Lee County.

A man is dead after a SWAT standoff shut down traffic on Rockridge Road near U.S. Highway 98, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd shared in a press conference Wednesday.
