A child was injured early Thursday morning in a crash on a Lakeland road, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
At 6:31 a.m., officials responded to Ranchland Acres Road, near Countryland Drive, after witnesses said a white pickup truck with ladders on top hit a child and fled the scene.
The sheriff’s office said the driver first stopped and asked the child if they were OK. When they said they were OK, the driver took off.
The child was found on the ground, not seriously hurt, but suffering a sore arm and shoulder. As of this report, the child may be transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution.
Deputies are still searching for the driver.
No further details have been released. This is an active investigation.
