A St. Lucie County marine deputy is in the hospital after being thrown from a boat on Saturday morning.
The St. Lucie County Sherriff’s Office says his injuries are consistent with being struck by an engine propeller.
Deputies say the incident occurred at 3:30 p.m. and that he is at an area hospital l with non-life-threatening injuries.
The sheriff’s office is working with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission to investigate the incident. At this time the agencies have found that the vessel may have struck a passing/rogue wave.
“In light of this incident, we want to acknowledge the very real dangers all law enforcement face while protecting our waterways and ensuring the safety of our community,” the sheriff’s office said in Facebook post.
