A 35-year-old Hialeah man was arrested early Friday morning after police said he attacked his girlfriend and her 12-year-old daughter with a baseball bat during a domestic dispute.
According to police, the victim said she returned home around 11:30 p.m. Thursday to find Jorge Luis Castillo Cardenas outside drinking with his cousin.
After entering the residence, police said the victim began brushing her 12-year-old’s daughter hair in preparation for school the following day when Castillo entered and started arguing with her.
The argument escalated after police said Castillo was drinking and made “unwanted advances” on the victim’s daughter and tried to kiss her after she stepped out of the shower, which she repeatedly rejected.
The mother told officers that Castillo then became increasingly aggressive, grabbing her by the hair and slapping her in the face, according to an arrest report.
When the victim began crying, police said Castillo retrieved a baseball bat from the kitchen and continued taunting her.
The situation escalated when authorities said the victim and her daughter attempted to flee.
Authorities said Castillo then struck the victim on the forearm with a baseball bat, causing visible swelling, and also hit the victim’s daughter on the shoulder, leaving her with bruises.
Both victims managed to escape and call the Hialeah Police Department.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers said they found Castillo outside the residence holding the bat. After initially resisting commands, Castillo was taken into custody without further incident.
Jail records show Castillo is facing two counts each of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and separate charges that include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse with no great bodily harm and resisting an officer with violence.
He was transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remains in custody as of Friday. His bond amount has not yet been determined.
