Two people are injured, including a Kissimmee man, and a 16-year-old is dead after a two-car accident on State Road 417 in the Hunter’s Creek area Friday night, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
The crash happened just after 9 p.m. in the northbound lanes at Mile Marker 9, between the John Young Boulevard and Orange Blossom Trail exits. A Mercedes-Benz SUV driven by a 25-year-old Winter Garden man was traveling in the inside lane behind a Mitsubishi sedan in the center lane, driven north by the 30-year-old Kissimmee man. The Mercedes swerved into the center lane, striking the Kissimmee man’s Mitsubishi Lancer in the left rear. The impact made the Mercedes rotate counter clockwise, toward the east shoulder. It hit the guardrail and continued on before striking a tree and overturning in an embankment, the report states. The SUV also went off the east side of the road.
The Mercedes occupants were transported to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital in critical condition, where the teenaged passenger was pronounced dead; the driver was in critical condition, per the FHP report. The Kissimmee man was transported to HCA Florida Hunter’s Creek with minor non-life threatening injuries.
FHP said all involved were wearing seat belts. The crash remains under investigation.
