A dispute over trash pickup in Lake Worth Beach escalated into a shooting spree, leaving workers scrambling for safety and law enforcement being threatened.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) stated that on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., deputies responded to 713 S J Street in Lake Worth Beach in regards to a shooting.
Deputies had met with one of the victims who stated that Oleg Arshinov, 52, was riding his bicycle on South Lakeside Drive near the 8th South Avenue intersection when he approached five City of Lake Worth Beach Sanitation Department workers who were picking up trash.
The probable cause affidavit noted that Arshinov ran his bike into a worker and started an argument because he wanted them to move their trucks.
PBSO revealed through a video a worker took that Arshinov began making threats to the worker he rammed with his bike. The worker asked him to back off, but Arshinov kept taunting the worker, so the worker hit him, the report said.
Arshinov left the scene after the altercation and then returned with a handgun, shooting at the workers, the affidavit continues.
According to PBSO, the two workers jumped in a bush behind a house to hide, two others ducked in their trucks, and the other worker drove away in his truck.
Arshinov searched for the victims before leaving the scene. It was noted that when the workers came out from hiding, they noticed one of their trucks had been moved from where it had been parked.
When Arshinov arrived at his home, it was reported that he noticed a PBSO helicopter searching for him. Deputies discovered that he went on Instagram Live to record the helicopter and the law enforcement presence outside of his home.
In the Instagram live, Arshinov said, “Now they are looking for me, good luck mother f***ker. I got bigger guns, I’ll take down that helicopter if I want to.”
The report stated that Arshinov had exited his home but told deputies he would not meet them or leave his front door area.
Investigators stated Arshinov had made threats during this time to deputies, pointing at one specific deputy who was aiming a gun at him and asking him to lower it, stating, “You! I am going to take you out first.”
A deputy shot him with an air gun, resulting in him retreating into his home.
Deputies were able to make contact with Arshinov through his cellphone to which he left his home from the back door and was detained.
Arshinov has been accused of four counts of attempted murder, seven counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and carjacking with a firearm.
After reviewing Arshinoc’s Instagram live videos, it was noted in the affidavit that he stated, ” One more thing I even drove a dump truck for the first time because they left it behind I couldn’t pass up an opportunity those mother f***kers.”
