Police arrested a Miami man Thursday after they said he inflicted severe abuse upon his 70-year-old father at least twice.
Richard Louis Davis Jr., 46, of Liberty City, is facing two first-degree felony charges of aggravated abuse of an elderly or disabled adult.
According to an arrest report from the Miami Police Department, its detectives’ investigation began Wednesday after the Florida Department of Children and Families assigned the elder abuse case to MPD.
Detectives went to a northwest Miami-Dade rehabilitation center that day and spoke to the victim, the report states.
He told police that he and his son had gotten into a verbal argument “about him moving out” which turned physical, it states.
“The victim described being struc(k) multiple times by (Davis) in his face, mouth and eyes,” police wrote.
The report states that on July 15, Davis’ father had gone to the Miami VA Medical Center, telling staff that he had been hit in the face “and this has occurred before.”
Authorities said the senior had injuries, including “multiple subacute and chronic rib fractures and comminuted displaced left facial bone fractures.”
Police said they located Davis at his home in the 800 block of Northwest 70th Street and took him into custody early Thursday afternoon. He declined to speak with law enforcement.
Davis was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $30,000 bond and a magistrate hold as of Friday afternoon, according to online jail records.
Those records show that if he posts bond, he will be under house arrest and will be required to wear an ankle monitor.
