A woman walking on a road in Marion County was fatally struck early Thursday by a van, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 5 a.m. on County Road 25, east of SE 84th Terrace, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, the van was traveling in a southeasterly direction on CR 25 while the pedestrian — a 41-year-old Belleview woman — was walking in the road’s eastbound lane.
The front of the van then struck the woman, knocking her to the ground in the eastbound lane as the vehicle traveled onto the south grass shoulder and came to final rest facing southeast, the report states.
The van’s driver, described as a 78-year-old Belleview man, was wearing his seat belt during the crash and was not injured, troopers said.
