1 airlifted to hospital after semi-truck overturns, catches fire on Turnpike.

One person was airlifted to a hospital Thursday morning after a semi-truck turned over and caught fire on Florida’s Turnpike in Broward County, authorities confirmed.

The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike near the Interstate 75 exit in Miramar.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials confirmed that MDFR crews were assisting Miramar Fire Rescue at the scene.

Officials said one person was airlifted to a hospital, but the extent of their injuries is not yet known. Four others were evaluated at the scene by Miramar Fire Rescue.

MDFR officials said the fire has since been extinguished and Hazmat units are at the scene assessing a fuel leak.

No other details were immediately released.
