1 dead, 1 injured in New Year’s shooting in Santa Rosa Beach

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting on New Year’s morning that left one injured and the suspect dead.

On Wednesday, Walton County dispatchers said they received a frantic 911 call from a victim.

The victim told dispatchers she ran from her home on Campbell Street in Santa Rosa Beach after her estranged husband came into the home uninvited and began shooting at her. She said awoke to him in her bedroom and tried to run from the residence when she was shot.

The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was found with fatal injuries that appear to be self-inflicted, authorities said.
