1 dead, 1 seriously injured when semi rear-ends stopped vehicle on I-95 in Brevard County

One person died and another was seriously injured in a crash Monday morning on Interstate 95 in Brevard County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened just after 9 a.m. in the northbound lanes near mile marker 228 in Mims.

Troopers said the crash involved a semitruck with trailer and a CMTI truck.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a semitruck with a trailer struck the back of a CMTI MOT truck that was in the outside lane with its arrow board and lights activated for a vehicle fire that was ahead.

The two vehicles then collided with the outside shoulder guardrail.

The driver of the CMTI truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s name or age was not released. The passenger of the truck, a 42-year-old St. Cloud man, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

All of the northbound lanes were blocked after the crash but later reopened hours later.

An investigation is ongoing.
