1 dead, 1 suspect at large in St. Pete home invasion: SPPD

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA)— One person is dead after breaking into a home in St. Petersburg and getting shot by the homeowner, the St. Petersburg Police Department announced.

Police responded to a call about a shooting at the 3400 block of 40th Street North around 2:00 a.m.

SPPD said two men entered the home around 2 a.m. before the homeowner fired shots and injured one of the men, Marcel Williams, 20.

A man who did not live in the home was shot, police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.

The second man fled the home, police said.

Both men have not been identified.

The investigation is ongoing.
