A 27-year-old woman was killed while two other adults and a child were hospitalized after a hit-and-run crash on Douglas Lane near Harold Avenue in Lehigh Acres early Friday morning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, three adults and a child were hit while walking by a 2014 Toyota sedan at 12:13 a.m. The driver is accused of driving on Douglas Lane at high speeds and hitting them. Another 27-year-old woman as well as a 31-year-old man and a 2-year-old, who was in a stroller, were all injured and hospitalized.
According to family and friends, Teresa Monroe is the woman who was killed and Mariha Gonzales is the woman in the hospital. Additionally, the family said Zavyon, Monroe’s son, is in the hospital in St. Petersburg.
After the crash, the driver is accused of running away. Troopers arrested the suspected driver, GJ, 42, at his home. J was booked into the Lee County Jail and he is facing charges of DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene with death and three counts of leaving the scene with serious injury, according to FHP.
Crews were seen investigating and a helicopter was searching the area.
The crash is still under investigation.
