1 dead, 4 hurt in head-on collision in Sumter County

A Floral City driver was killed on Wednesday after colliding with another vehicle in Sumter County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 37-year-old man was driving southbound on SR-471 and lost control of his vehicle, leading him to cross the center line and collide with another vehicle nearly head-on.

Both vehicles were overturned as a result of the impact and ended on the road shoulder, according to the FHP.

The driver of the second vehicle was identified as a 27-year-old woman from Alabama and had two other adult passengers in the vehicle and a 4-year-old child.

The 37-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while all passengers of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries.
