A Florida Highway Patrol trooper used deadly force during an altercation with a suspect early Friday in the emergency department of HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, police said.
The Ocala Police Department said the trooper was called to the hospital around 2:50 a.m. because an Ocala police detail officer requested assistance.
“A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was involved in a physical altercation with a suspect in custody, which resulted in FHP using deadly force,” Ocala police posted on Facebook.
One person was killed in the incident, according to police, but authorities have not shared any details about the suspect of how they were killed.
No law enforcement officers or hospital staff members were injured.
Later Friday, HCA Florida Ocala Hospital released a statement about the incident.
“We are assisting state and local police in their investigations of the incident that occurred early this morning in the hospital’s emergency department. We are also providing support and counseling to patients and colleagues who were present or may have been affected by the incident,” the statement said.
The FHP and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the incident.
