One person has died following a crash in Brevard County involving a cement truck and a minivan, according to a spokesperson for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities responded to the crash just after 3 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and First St. in Grant-Valkaria. Another individual was taken to the hospital, but the condition of the person transported was not immediately known.

According to troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol, the minivan was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 1 in the inside lane, approaching First Street as the cement truck was traveling northbound. Troopers said that, for an unknown reason, the minivan driver crossed over the median into the northbound lane, directly in the path of the cement truck.

The front of the minivan struck the front of the cement truck, and debris from the collision hit the left side of the third vehicle.

The driver of the minivan, an 81-year-old Barefoot Bay man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the cement truck, a 57-year-old Lake Worth man, sustained minor injuries. The driver and passenger of the third vehicle were not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
