1 dead in Marion County gas station shooting near interstate, deputies say

On Friday, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting at a Petro gas station on Highway 318 and Interstate 75.

When deputies arrived at approximately 2:24 p.m., they located an adult Black male suffering from a gunshot wound.

Marion County Fire Rescue responded and transported the victim to the hospital, where he later died, MCSO said.

His identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

MCSO Major Crimes detectives have determined that the deadly shooting was due to an altercation at the gas pumps.
