Gunfire tore through a shopping plaza in Southwest Miami-Dade, sending a man to the hospital and leading authorities to detain two people.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene of the shooting in the area of Southwest 67th Street and Bird Road on Wednesday night and set up a crime scene around a McDonald’s.
7News cameras captured a handful of deputies searching for evidence of a shooting, using their flashlights to scan the parking lot.
A short time later, deputies were seen investigating an area north of the initial scene. It’s unclear whether they were looking for a weapon or searching for the subjects.
Detectives said that upon arrival, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Rescue crews took the victim to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
While two people have been detained, there are still a lot of unanswered questions about what happened at this shopping plaza, such as what led up to the shooting and whether the gunman and the victim knew each other.
The MDSO Kendall District General Investigations unit has taken the lead in the investigation.
