1 injured in Collier County apartment fire, hoarding conditions reported

One person was injured in an apartment fire in the 1400 block of Pompei Lane in Naples Saturday evening, the North Collier Fire & Rescue District said.

Crews say that when they arrived, there was an active fire. They add that while they were working to extinguish the flames, they had other units and the Collier County Sheriff’s Office evacuate the neighboring residences.

Firefighters say that the apartment was determined to be in hoarding conditions, making it extremely difficult to access the room where the fire was located. They say they switched to a transitional attack, which included pouring water on the fire through openings in the structure, such as a window.

Once the fire was knocked down enough and crews were able to clear a path, the flames were extinguished.

The homeowner reported some minor injuries and smoke inhalation and was transported to the hospital.
