A woman is dead, and a man is critically injured after a motorcycle crash on Thursday afternoon in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say the crash happened around 4 p.m. on High Bridge Road near Walter Boardman Lane in the Ormond Beach area.
Investigators say a 64-year-old man was riding a 2025 Harley-Davidson Heritage motorcycle westbound on High Bridge Road with a 57-year-old woman as his passenger. At the same time, a 65-year-old man was driving a 2016 Toyota Tacoma pulling a trailer eastbound on the road.
According to FHP, the motorcycle missed the curve and rode into the path of the pickup truck’s trailer. The motorcycle then hit the left side of the trailer.
The impact threw both the rider and the passenger from the motorcycle.
Troopers say the 57-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The 64-year-old man was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
Investigators later contacted the pickup truck driver, who told troopers he was unaware the motorcycle had run into the trailer.
FHP says the pickup truck and trailer were taken into evidence as part of the investigation.
The crash is under investigation.
