1 killed, 1 seriously injured when 2 minibikes crash into SUV in Orange County

One person was killed and another suffered serious injuries when the minibikes they were driving crashed into an SUV on Sunday in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the fatal crash happened around 6:25 p.m. on Orange Avenue at Nela Avenue.

According to a crash report, two Coleman CT200U minibikes were traveling north on Orange Avenue, approaching Nela Avenue in the inside lane.

At the same time, an Acura MDX was stopped in the northbound inside lane on Orange Avenue for traffic ahead.

Troopers said that the minibikes failed to stop for the Acura in front of them, and as a result, both vehicles struck the back of the SUV. The collision caused both drivers to be thrown from the minibikes.

According to the report, the driver of one minibike – identified as a 21-year-old Orlando man – was taken to ORMC and was pronounced dead.

The driver of the second minibike – identified as a 16-year-old Orlando boy – was taken to ORMC with serious injuries but was listed in stable condition, according to the FHP.

Troopers said the driver and passenger of the Acura were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
