One person is dead after a house fire late Tuesday night, the Citrus County Fire Rescue announced.

CCFR responded to a house fire at 11:19 p.m. in the Sugarmill Woods Community and found a 2,400-square-foot home 80% engulfed in flames.

When Engine 18 arrived at the scene, they initiated a fire attack due to the intense fire conditions.

Crews started working on the main door and forced entry, but the fire conditions prevented crews from going inside.

With the help of Engine 24 from Floral City, the water supply was secured.

A 360-degree survey of the home revealed it was 100% involved, and the roof had collapsed throughout the home, according to CCFR.

During the fire, Ladder 23 arrived and removed the garage door revealing a vehicle inside which raised concerns about people inside the home.

A search was conducted once it was safe to do so, but no one was found.

A secondary search was conducted and found one deceased person inside the home, according to CCFR.

The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office, Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, and Medical Examiners were notified and are leading the investigation into the cause of the fire.

Due to the extensive damage to the home, the cause of the fire has not been determined.

“Citrus County Fire Rescue extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” Citrus County Fire Rescue said in a release. “This tragic incident serves as a solemn reminder of the importance of fire safety.”
