11-year-old cyclist seriously injured in vehicle collision after running stop sign: Florida Highway Patrol

An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured after he was hit by a vehicle on Saturday while riding his bike.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, around 1:20 p.m., a Honda CR-V driven by a 17-year-old girl was traveling north on County Road 1. At the same time, an 11-year-old boy on a bicycle was traveling west in the westbound lane of Florida Avenue, approaching County Road 1, where a stop sign was located.

FHP said the boy failed to stop for the stop sign and entered the intersection just as the Honda was approaching.

As a result, the front left corner of the Honda collided with the rear of the bicycle, causing the boy to fall off the bike.

The 11-year-old sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

No further information is available at this time.
