11-year-old hospitalized after being struck by car near Winter Garden middle school

An 11-year-old girl was hospitalized after she was struck by a vehicle near a middle school in Winter Garden on Wednesday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

In a release, troopers said the incident happened as the girl was walking southbound on the sidewalk along Tiny Road, south of Bridgewater Crossings Boulevard.

According to FHP, a 2020 Honda Accord was traveling south on Tiny Road as the girl was walking south along the sidewalk. Investigators said the girl attempted to cross Tiny Road but did not see the Honda.

FHP told News 6 the girl was not in a marked crosswalk when she was struck. Troopers said she was hit by the left side of the car.

As a result, she was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the FHP and Orange County Fire Rescue.

Meanwhile, the vehicle driver — a 53-year-old man from Winter Garden — was not transported and remained at the scene, the release shows.

The speed limit in the residential neighborhood is 25mph. It is not clear at this time how fast the Honda was going.

The crash remains under investigation by FHP.
