An 11-year-old was seriously injured in a crash Monday morning when a person trying to get away from a traffic stop sped off and ran a red light in St. Petersburg, according to police.
The crash happened at about 9 a.m. along 31st Street South, police said.
An officer had pulled over a Mercedes SUV near 1st Avenue South and 31st Street South when the driver sped off and crashed into a minivan, police said.
Both people in the minivan, including the 11-year-old, were taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital. The child had serious injuries, police said.
Ajaye Morrer, 19, was arrested and charged with aggravated fleeing and two counts of leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury, according to police.
No other details about the crash were immediately available.
