13-Year-Old Boy Dies from Gunshot Wound at Miami Gardens Home

Another local community is wobbling in the wake of a devastating accident that claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy on Saturday evening, as reported by NBC6 News and Local 10 News this weekend.

According to police reports, the child suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head while inside a home on NW 207th Street and 38th Avenue.

Authorities responded to the scene around 7:40 p.m. and discovered the boy in critical condition. He was swiftly airlifted to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, in Hollywood, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries, Local 10 News confirmed.

Miami Gardens Police Sergeant Emmanuel Jeanty spoke to the media about the importance of responsible gun ownership, stating, “A lot of people do have firearms these days and it’s up to us to ensure that if we’re going to have firearms in our home, to keep them locked up and make sure they stay away from the reach of kids.”

Initial investigations reveal that a group of children were engaged in video games inside a bedroom when a firearm was accessed, leading to the fatal shooting.

The NBC6 report revealed that at least one adult was present in the home at the time of the incident, and several individuals are currently detained for questioning.

However, it remains unclear if any charges will be filed.

Detectives are working diligently to uncover how the firearm came into the possession of the minors.

“I can tell you that the police department, we do give out gun locks and we give out different types of kits to family members and homeowners to keep these firearms locked under the reach of kids because our children’s safety is our top priority,” Jeanty added.

Currently, all possible arrests are still under investigation as police continues to piece together all the information.
