A 13-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after he was run over by a truck hauling a trailer while riding a mini bike in Golden Gate Estates.
The crash happened Saturday near the intersection of 16th Avenue Southwest and 19th Street Southwest.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the teen was riding the mini bike when he was hit. A mini bike is a type of motorized bicycle.
Multiple people called 911 in the moments after the crash.
One witness told dispatchers it looked like the teen may have thought the truck was going to stop, even though it wasn’t at a stop sign.
Florida Highway Patrol says the teen was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
Riding ATVs and minibikes is common in Golden Gate Estates. This is the second serious crash involving a teen in Collier County this year.
FHP says the full crash report could take more than 10 days to complete from the day of the crash. It is still under investigation.
