16-year-old charged with murder, robbery in deadly shooting near Westside High School

A 16-year-old is facing charges after a deadly shooting Thursday morning that forced Westside High School to temporarily go on lockdown.

AR is charged with murder and robbery in the shooting at an apartment complex on Firestone Road, across from the high school.

Officers were called around 7:40 a.m. to the complex because of a reported shooting. They found 31-year-old C Al N R suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He died at the scene.

JSO said the officers’ quick response and help from witnesses allowed them to quickly identify R as the suspected shooter.

According to JSO, witnesses said they heard the gunshots, and when they stopped hearing the gunfire, they saw multiple people running from the apartment.

“The victim was staying inside one of the apartments, and this is where he was shot, actually, inside one of the apartments,” JSO Sgt. SR said.

A spokesperson with Duval County Public Schools said Westside High School was put on a lockdown “out of an abundance of caution” following the shooting, which was unrelated to the school.

“All students and staff are safe,” the spokesperson said.
