18-year-old arrested in connection to fatal Bradenton hit-and-run on I-75: FHP

PHoto:  The Florida Highway Patrol

An 18-year-old was arrested after a fatal hit-and-run on I-75 in Manatee County, the Florida Highway Patrol announced.

FHP located the black Ford Mustang that was believed to have veered from the left lane to the center, where it hit the side of a Chevy Trailblazer SUV before the Chevy collided with a semi-truck around 6:30 a.m. near Exit 220.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Jonathan Matos Morales, 18, of Cocoa, Florida, was arrested for vehicular homicide and leaving a crash scene involving death.

The impact of the crash caused the semi to go across the roadway and overturn before coming to a stop in the median and across all three lanes.

The driver of the semi, a 34-year-old from New Smyrna Beach, died in the crash, and the driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries.

According to FHP, Matos Morales stopped momentarily before taking off on I-75 south Monday morning.

Matos Morales was arrested and booked into the Manatee County Jail.
