A teen was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Lake Wales on Tuesday night, officials say.
It happened just before 9:30 p.m. on US 27 near Pedalers Pond Boulevard. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, evidence and eye witness statements indicate that an 18-year-old was going northbound on the highway in a 2025 black Honda four-door sedan.
At the same time, another 18-year-old was going southbound in the center lane while driving a 2007 silver Pontiac sedan. For unknown reasons, officials say the Honda lost control, crossed the grass median at Pedalers Pond Boulevard and collided with the Pontiac.
After the initial impact, the Honda was reportedly struck by a semi-truck driven by a 66-year-old woman.
All drivers were wearing seat belts, officials say.
The driver of the Honda was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and was released shortly after treatment. Deputies say the 18-year-old who was driving the Pontiac was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman who was driving the semi-truck was not injured.
An investigation is ongoing.
