18-year-old man struck by SUV after standing over dog on highway in Escambia County

 An 18-year-old Cantonment man is seriously injured after a crash in Escambia County on Saturday night.

Troopers say the incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. when the 18-year-old man was standing in the southbound outside lane, about 0.3 miles north of Booth Lake Road, over a dead dog in the roadway, and a 71-year-old Pensacola woman driving a white SUV on US Highway 29 struck him, according to FHP.

He sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital.

The 71-year-old woman was unable to see the pedestrian and the dog in time to avoid the collision, according to FHP.
