18-year-old Port Charlotte man loses control, dies in Sarasota County crash after hitting metal pole

A Port Charlotte man was killed in a Sarasota County crash after losing control of his vehicle Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say that at around 6 a.m. the man, an 18-year-old driving a 2012 Ford Fusion, was traveling south on I-75 in the center lane, near mile marker 202.8.

As he approached another driver directly ahead, he veered his vehicle onto the inside lane and lost control.

The Ford rotated, crossed all three southbound lanes, exited the roadway and went onto the shoulder of the interstate. The left side of the vehicle then collided with a metal pole on the grass, FHP says.

The 18-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene. FHP says the crash remains under investigation.
