2 adults, 2 young children hospitalized after cars collide at Oldsmar intersection

Two young children were seriously hurt in a two-car crash that happened Thursday afternoon at an Oldsmar intersection.

The crash was reported just after 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Tampa Road and St. Petersburg Drive, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said a 27-year-old woman was driving eastbound on Tampa Road in a 2015 Nissan Altima with two children, a 6-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy, riding as passengers in her car.

Meanwhile, a 52-year-old woman in a 2021 Tesla Model 3 was facing westbound in the turn lane on Tampa Road to go south onto St. Petersburg Drive.

Detectives said both drivers entered the intersection at the same time and collided in the middle.

All four people involved were hospitalized, according to the sheriff’s office.

The two drivers sustained minor injuries. Officials described the 4-year-old boy’s injuries as “severe,” and said the 6-year-old girl suffered “life-threatening injuries.”

Investigators pointed to speed as a factor in the crash but did not say how fast the drivers were going, nor whether any charges will be filed.
