A 53-year-old man was attacked and robbed in Tice over the weekend after he followed a woman and three men to a home for drinks, resulting in the arrest of BW and JD.
“They tried to shoot me, they tried to kill me, they tried to do everything to me,” the victim said in a 911 call. “I need help. They tried to steal my car.”
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a scene after reports of an armed robbery at approximately 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Deputies say this happened while the man was in his mother’s car on Granada Boulevard. After a trip to a gas station on Palm Beach Boulevard. The victim reported being pistol-whipped, suffering a jaw injury and a black eye, and having his earrings ripped off.
The victim was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital, and the LCSO Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation.
Deputies conducted a further interview with the victim at the hospital, who told deputies he was putting gas in his car at a gas station near Palm Beach Boulevard before the incident occurred.
The victim told deputies he left the gas station and followed a woman and three men over to a house, where they had drinks on the porch. The victim said he did not know any of these people.
According to deputies, the victim then began to get uncomfortable and attempted to leave. As he was walking to his car, he was pistol-whipped by one of the men and forced to the ground. He was then robbed of his wallet, phone, watch, and earrings, which were ripped from his ears.
The victim said the suspect left the scene on foot. He also stated that while he was being robbed, two other men continuously kicked him on the ground.
Deputies then identified the suspect as BW, 36, and confirmed with the victim that W was the man who assaulted and robbed him.
The two men who kicked the victim were brought into LCSO for questioning, but neither was placed under arrest.
Deputies then began searching for W, and at around 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, W was located and arrested.
W remains in custody and faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and robbery with a firearm.
The victim’s mother, who met with Gulf Coast News, said her son has since been released from the hospital but is still recovering from his injuries.
