2 dead, 1 injured in ‘domestic incident’ shooting in West Melbourne, sheriff says

An elderly couple is dead, a neighbor was hurt, and a suspect is in custody after a shooting that Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey called an “isolated and domestic incident“.

The shooting happened on Wednesday just after 8 p.m., on Washington Street near Milwaukee Avenue.

Shortly after, Ivey said an elderly man approached a neighbor across the street, seeking help, stating that his wife had been shot. That’s when the sheriff said another round of gunfire erupted.

After deputies arrived on the scene, investigators discovered three victims: the elderly man, his wife, and the neighbor who had been hit by gunfire as he was being approached for help.

Both the elderly man and his wife were pronounced dead from their gunshot wounds after being transported to hospitals. The third victim was injured but is expected to make a full recovery, the sheriff said.

“We have the suspect in custody at this time,” said Ivey.

Details on the relationship between the suspect and the victims were not given.

This is a developing story.
