Gainesville Police Officers are investigating the death of a couple early Saturday morning.
Police said just after 5:30 a.m., they got a phone call from a “concerned family member” about a domestic disturbance in the Northwood Pines Neighborhood. The caller stated an argument happened between the victim and the suspect, who are married.
The caller said the suspect put a gun to the victim’s head. The family member attempted to de-escalate the situation over the phone, but soon after heard gunshots.
Police officers arrived and set up a perimeter around the home and attempted to call the home and re-establish communication. Police said because of the serious nature of the call, reports of additional firearms inside the residence, history of domestic-related issues and prior military experience of the suspect, SWAT and negotiation teams responded as well.
When they entered the home, SWAT officers found the husband and wife dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Police said the husband shot his wife, then himself.
In an editorial decision, TV20 will not publish the names of the couple involved until GPD officers complete next of kin notification.
