Two people were hurt in a house fire in Fort Lauderdale on Monday morning, officials said.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials said they received multiple 911 calls about the fire at a home on 1400 block of Riverland Road just after 8 a.m.
“Crews could see a large column of smoke from as far as downtown,” fire rescue said. “Units arrived to find heavy smoke and flames showing from the structure.”
A photo of the scene shows the roof of the structure covered in plumes of smoke as flames burn.
Two people were rescued from the home. One of the victim was taken to the hospital; the other was evaluated at the scene for potential smoke inhalation.
It took authorities about 30 minutes to put out the fire.
The home, meanwhile, was left “pretty thoroughly destroyed.”
Officials are working to determine what started the blaze.
