2 killed, 1 hurt in crash near Belleview

A two-vehicle crash in Marion County killed a man and a woman in their 70s and injured one other Thursday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 5 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 441 and SE 95th Street, just north of Belleview, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, a 72-year-old Ocala man driving a sedan northbound on U.S. 441 attempted to turn left onto SE 95th Street when the right side of the vehicle was struck by a pickup truck traveling southbound on U.S. 441.

The Ocala man and his passenger — a 71-year-old woman, also of Ocala — were taken to the hospital where they were both pronounced dead, the report states, adding neither of them were wearing a seat belt in the crash.

The 20-year-old Fort McCoy man driving the pickup truck was hospitalized in stable condition for treatment of minor injuries, according to FHP. Troopers believe he was wearing a seat belt during the wreck.
