2 men killed after argument escalates into shootout in Wimauma, sheriff says

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a double homicide that happened in Wimauma Tuesday evening.

Deputies said they received a 911 call shortly after 6 p.m. from someone reporting a shooting in the 3300 block of Willow Road.

Detectives believe two men got into an argument and started shooting at each other. They both were injured by the gunfire and taken to the hospital.

The sheriff’s office said both men later died at the hospital. Their names have not yet been released.

“This tragic event reminds us that disputes can escalate quickly with deadly consequences,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This type of violence on our streets puts innocent lives at risk and will not be tolerated.”

The investigation remained ongoing Tuesday night, and no further information was immediately available.
