Florida Highway Patrol said the driver and passenger of a golf died in a crash involving a Kia Soul at a Sumter County intersection Friday night.
According to FHP, the crash happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 109 and U.S. Route 27 northeast of The Villages. Troopers said a golf cart traveling west on CR-109 failed to stop for a red traffic signal and was struck by the Kia heading south. The golf cart overturned as a result of the crash.
The 64-year-old Lady Lake man driving the golf cart and his passenger, a 58-year-old woman from The Villages, were transported to an area hospital, where they later died.
Troopers said the driver and a 1-year-old boy in the Kia were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
