Pembroke Pines police investigated a serious crash Monday morning.
The two-car crash happened at Pines Boulevard and Northwest 76th Avenue, both of which were shut down in the wake of the wreck.
Both vehicles were damaged: one slammed into a light pole, while the other hit a fire hydrant.
People working nearby described the wreck as a high-speed collision.
“They were going at least 110 or 100 (mph), the gray car,” Fernando Godinez, who works at Mexiote, a nearby Mexican restaurant, said. “(They were) just driving too fast, speeding in general I think and just tapped her.”
Crews had to extricate one person from a vehicle. Two people were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital as trauma alert patients.
Godinez said he staff from the restaurant rushed over to help.
“I went over there and helped. I grabbed a knife because the airbag was hard and we tried ripping the door,” he said. “A few people got cut on the windows, but you gotta help somebody. At the end of the day, a human is a human.”
Florida Power & Light secured the damaged pole, while public works crews shut off water, which was gushing out of the hydrant and flooding the street.
The scene was turned over to Pembroke Pines police as the investigation continues.
