The Boca Raton Police Department announced Friday that it had arrested two people in connection with a carjacking that occurred along Southwest 18 Street Thursday afternoon.
Kevin McCall, 19, and a 17-year-old boy were both charged with carjacking with a firearm. The police department said with the use of video surveillance, it was able to determine the suspect fled into Broward County.
Moments before the carjacking, one of the suspects was seen exiting a Honda Accord. The police department was able to obtain the license plate number of the Honda.
Just before 6 p.m., the Honda was located traveling on Interstate 95. After an attempted traffic stop, the Honda fled, and an occupant was seen throwing a firearm out of the car.
A short time later, five occupants got out of the Honda and ran. All five of the occupants were detained. McCall was one of the occupants in the Honda who was detained. McCall matched the description the victim of the carjacking gave to police of the suspect.
Inside McCall’s pocket was the key fob to the stolen Mercedes. According to the police department, an ankle monitoring device placed McCall at the scene of the theft of the Mercedes.
The 17-year-old boy’s ankle monitoring device also placed him in the immediate area of the carjacking. The police department confirmed the stolen Mercedes was recovered using its tracking software.
