A teen was shot after he attempted to burglarize a vehicle at The Crest at Naples Apartments Wednesday morning.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office says two people were arrested after they responded to an attempted vehicle burglary and shots fired around 5 a.m. on Sumter Grove Way in Lely.
Detectives say a witness confronted Shawn Francois, 18, and Jayden Kayne Cruz, 17, as they were breaking into a parked vehicle.
The sheriff’s office says the duo was wearing all-black clothing and face coverings.
CCSO says a witness was woken up by the sound of a car alarm. He grabbed his gun to look outside and found two people who ran away.
The witness said he got in his car and drove around looking for the suspects when another alarm went off. Deputies say the witness caught the two inside a second victim’s car.
The report states the witness saw Cruz move his hand into his waistband looking for a weapon. The witness then shot Cruz.
The suspects fled the scene, but deputies found the two close by. They were arrested and each charged with two counts of burglary of a conveyance and one count of attempted grand theft auto.
Cruz had a gunshot wound and was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment.
CCSO says the investigation is ongoing.
