20-year-old bicyclist hit and killed on SR-50 in Orange County

A 20-year-old man is dead after being hit and killed while riding his bike on Colonial Drive in Orange County, FHP says.

According to state troopers, the crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday on Colonial Drive near St. Catherine Avenue in Christmas.

They say an 18-year-old girl was driving eastbound on Colonial Drive in the inside lane.

Troopers say the 20-year-old man riding the bike was just ahead of her in the travel lane, but did not have any lights or reflectors on his bike and was not wearing any reflective clothing.

Because of that, FHP says the 18-year-old girl ran into the back of the bike.

The 20-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teen who hit him was not injured, but a passenger in her car, a 17-year-old girl, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
