A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a car in Highlands County on Saturday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 9 p.m. as both vehicles were heading north on US-27, just north of South George Boulevard in Sebring, troopers said.
The sedan, driven by a 27-year-old Lake Placid woman, was ahead of the motorcyclist when officials said they both tried to merge into the same lane.
The front of the motorcycle then collided with the back of the sedan. Investigators said the motorcyclist, a 20-year-old Sebring man, was traveling “at a high rate of speed” just before the collision.
He was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and later pronounced dead, the FHP reported.
The driver of the sedan was not injured. As of Sunday, the crash was still under investigation.
