WEST PALM BEACH, Fla (CBS12) — A deputy shot and killed a 20-year-old early Saturday after finding him stabbing his father with a sword; both later died.
Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) deputies arrived at the 6400 block of Emerald Dunes Drive just after 3 a.m. Saturday for reports of an armed domestic violence incident.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered that an armed confrontation had occurred between a father and son, according to PBSO
When deputies entered the home, they reported witnessing the 20-year-old son actively stabbing his 52-year-old father with a sword.
After multiple verbal commands to drop the weapon with no compliance, deputies say they discharged their firearm, striking the suspect.
Deputies say they immediately gave both the suspect and the victim medical aid, but despite their efforts, both succumbed to their injuries.
Per PBSO’s standard department protocol, the deputy who discharged their firearm will be placed on administrative leave with pay.
PBSO’s Violent Crimes Division, the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are actively investigating the incident.
