21-year-old, 18-year-old arrested, accused in Jacksonville shooting that killed Great Dane

A 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were arrested last week and accused in connection with a shooting that left a family’s dog dead.

An arrest report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office showed Nathan Kizer was arrested Wednesday after investigators found him in a car that was seen around the time of the shooting in the Lake Forest neighborhood on Aug. 15.

Kizer was charged with shooting into an occupied building with a semi-automatic weapon.

One of the victims told JSO he was recently involved in a dispute over a game where he was “roasting” 18-year-old Logan Kurlin who was driving the car with Kizer inside before he was arrested.

Kizer and Kurlin spoke to JSO but their statements were redacted in the arrest report.

Kurlin, who was also arrested Wednesday, is also facing charges of shooting into an occupied building and carrying a concealed firearm.

A Jacksonville woman who spoke to News4JAX said the terrifying drive-by shooting left her home riddled with bullets that narrowly missed her family.

More than a dozen shots were fired into her Northside home and one bullet killed their beloved Great Dane, Naomi. She credited their 5-year-old dog with saving her son’s life.

Surveillance footage captured the sound of three different weapons being fired at the home.
