A 21-year-old man was arrested on aggravated battery charges after he allegedly attacked his brother and father with an axe inside their Marion County home.
On Sunday, September 22, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a local residence in reference to an altercation involving a deadly weapon that had occurred that evening. While heading to the incident location, the deputy was flagged down by two men who were in a vehicle on the side of the road near the 10300 block of NW 60th Avenue, according to the arrest report.
The men, who were later confirmed to be the father and brother of Eduardo Alexis Gonzalez, were “visibly injured” with blood on their faces, arms, and legs. They told the deputy that they had been in a fight with Gonzalez.
The deputy noted in the report that the father had “apparent sharp force injuries to his head above his left ear,” another “sharp force injury” on his hand, and blood on his face and arms. The brother had sustained injuries to his hands and legs.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
According to the report, investigators learned that shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, both victims and Gonzalez were in the living room when Gonzalez allegedly “got up and started attacking” his brother.
The brother told investigators that Gonzalez attempted to “hit him in the torso with the axe,” but his father got in-between them in an attempt to deescalate the situation. He advised that his father was then struck in the head with the axe, and his hand was cut as well.
During the altercation, the brother advised that Gonzalez cut his leg and hand with the axe. A struggle then ensued, and the brother and father managed to flee from the home in a vehicle while calling 911.
MCSO deputies responded to the incident location and observed a “trail of blood” on the stairs leading to the entrance of the residence. The front door was “wide open,” and Gonzalez was found laying naked on the floor in a bedroom, according to the report.
Gonzalez appeared to be intoxicated due to his “bloodshot watery eyes,” “slurred speech,” and an “intense odor of [an] alcoholic beverage” on his breath. While he did not appear to have any physical injuries, the report stated that he was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.
Inside the home, deputies found a metal axe covered in blood, and large amounts of blood were also observed in the living room, according to the report.
An MCSO deputy made contact with Gonzalez at the hospital, and he refused to discuss the incident. After being medically cleared, he was placed under arrest and transported to Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
Gonzalez is being charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of criminal mischief with property damage of $1,000 or more.
A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
